Joining the Blaugust Discord

achievement for Discord

There is an achievement in this year’s Blaugust you can earn for joining the dedicated Discord server that Bel set up for Blaugust. Several of the other achievements are wrapped up in participating on the server.

Even with this list, I admit I was hesitant to join. I have a LOT of Discord servers already between the online games I play, people I have grouped with and tabletop RPGs. I’m pretty selective when it comes to adding more. I’m very glad I decided to join the server and I highly recommend that you sign up for it if you are participating this year.

A Community of Bloggers

One of the most important ways to become and stay active as a blogger is to surround yourself with a great community. It takes a little more of your time to be a good community member, but it enriches the experience in so many ways. The Discord channel is helping me get to know my fellow bloggers a lot better. There has been great advice shared, pet pics, music interests, and it is an easy place to find links to each other’s posts so I can read and comment (this weekend when I get some extra time, I promise!). While I already follow several of the Blaugust participants on Twitter, the Discord server will be a big help in finding more people to follow and finding more blogs to read. Come be a friend of Wumpus (and ask Bel what that means!).

Welcome to the discord! I’m like you in that I have more than enough discord channels already, so I’m really selective about what I join and keep. This has been a great place to share posts, read posts, meet folks and talk about blogging in general. I hope you enjoy it!

It has been one of my more active servers and it looks like people have been on it from past years too, so I’ll likely keep it around. 🙂

I was so glad when Discord introduced folders, to help a little with the server management.

Nowadays I tend to be more willing to just move servers around, if one is more active or has events running it goes higher in the folder list, some then go down the list and many get mutes on everything but direct @’s.
I think it’s the only way to stay sane.

I’m glad the Blaugust server stays pretty active.

Muting except for direct mentions sounds like a really good idea. I hadn’t thought of that, but I’m going to mute a few where I merely lurk, thanks for the suggestions.
