It is Blaugust time, the August festival of blogging. This initiative was started many years ago by Belghast. For 2025, it is up and running again thanks to a wonderful community of bloggers who stepped up to help out. You can read a bit about the change in organizers this year, and maybe post some words of love and healing for Bel if you do. I haven’t had much to write about for a while which is why I didn’t sign up for the event this year. But I couldn’t let the month go by without sharing some info about it for anyone who might happen upon this post. You can get involved anytime during the month. There are at least 125 participants this year already. It is a great community of supportive bloggers who cross promote and cheerlead for each other. Many are book and gaming enthusiasts, but we get a few technology writers and other more niche bloggers as well. If you have been looking for an excuse to start a blog, or just need some encouragement and topic ideas, I highly recommend taking part in Blaugust 2025.
Want to show your support? Visit the blogs of the participants and make some comments. Stop by the blogs of the mentors who have stepped up to volunteer this year and ask some questions. They are all good writers with many interesting topics and ideas. Here are the mentors who are organizing Blaugust this year:
- Krikket – Nerd Girl Thoughts
- Aywren – Aywren’s Nook
- Bhagpuss – Inventory Full
- Jaedia – The Dragon Chronicles
- Magi – Indiecator
- Naithin – Time to Loot
- Paeroka – Nerdy Bookahs
- Roger Edwards – Contains Moderate Peril
- Wilhelm Arcturus – TAGN
Having a blog that is mostly dormant may seem like a strange investment. For me, it is a symbol of hope in the future and a testament of the past. Hope that my spark will return either through immersion and massive enthusiasm for a game again, or just a desire to write regularly again. There are several tips and info posts about past games on here. Some of them even show up in search results these many years later.
Time Passes
I still game, I still read a lot, but for one reason or another I haven’t wanted to write about any of these games or books for a while. There was a time when I loved taking screen shots of in-game pursuits, sharing lessons-learned, and talking about my favorite books. Call it age, or losing my muse, or the strange warp speed of time passing by unnoticed as years accumulate from the day-to-day sameness of life. My garden has gone from struggling to lush and out of control. People I new as children are suddenly 30. I realize that pop culture references are much older than my mind places them. It is a bit disconcerting. Despite the passage of time, at least we still have annual events and milestones to mark it. So here I am to say, Happy Festival of Blogging Blaugustians!
